RailCorp alcohol and drug testing
Random alcohol and drug testing is carried out on rail safety workers as part of RailCorp's commitment to build a safer network for customers and staff.
Under the Rail Safety Regulation 2003 it is an offence to report for or carry out duties under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is also an offence to refuse a test.
Random alcohol testing of rail safety workers commenced on 20 October 2003 and random drug testing began on 29 April 2004.
Information briefings have been rolled out to staff about the testing procedures including the use of a video to help explain the random drug and alcohol testing program.
