Recycling

One of our ongoing priorities is the conservation and responsible use of resources. Improvements to date include:

  • Responsible paper purchasing. Approximately 80 per cent of the office paper used in CityRail offices is recycled-content paper.

  • Reducing paper consumption. We are currently working to reduce the amount of paper consumed in our internal publications.

  • Recycled-content paper publications. We are currently investigating the opportunities that exist for using recycled-content paper in our external publications, including our brochures, posters, timetables and tickets. During 2004 and 2005 approximately 85 million tickets were produced using paper with 50% recycled content and printed with environmentally friendly ink.

  • Mobile phone, batteries and accessories recycling. CityRail were involved in a mobile phone batteries and accessories recycling program in which RailCorp recycled approximately 455kg of recycled mobile phones, batteries and accessories during 2004 - 2005.
