How do I use the CityRail website?

If you are experiencing any difficulties using the CityRail website you may find the site help section useful. Learn how to navigate the CityRail website, search timetables, find out fare information and more.

Why have you changed the way timetables are shown on the CityRail website?

CityRail completed a major website redevelopment in June 2009. As part of the changes, we introduced a new-look timetable viewer based on customer feedback and usability testing. The new timetable viewer allows users to quickly scroll through train times. It also integrates trackwork information.

Why is the text so small/large?

The text on this web site is relative, not fixed, so that you can change the font size to suit you. This is required to meet accessibility guidelines. Because most web sites still use fixed text sizes, you may not have seen this problem before. You can fix this by adjusting your browser's text size back to the default value (or larger if that suits you). Please note that significantly increasing the text size may adversely affect the screen layout.

Depending on your browser, you can increase or decrease the font size by:

  • Internet Explorer 6 - from the View menu select Text Size then select the desired size.
  • Internet Explorer 7 - from the Page menu select Text Size then select the desired size.
  • Internet Explorer 8 - from the View menu select Text Size then select the desired size.
  • Internet Explorer 9 - click Tools beside the tabs on the topmost area, click Zoom and select any percentage you like.
  • Firefox 2.x - from the View menu select Text Size then select Increase/Decrease.
  • Firefox 3.x - from the View menu select Zoom then select Zoom In/Zoom Out.

Why are the stations and times out of alignment on my browser?

Internet Explorer 6 users may find that stations and times appear out of alignment when the browser's text size is not set to medium (the default). To fix this problem, go to "Text Size" in the "View" menu and select "Medium".

Can I bookmark or link to a timetable?

Yes. If you wish to set a browser bookmark for a CityRail timetable you refer to often, go to the timetables page and click on one of the links under "Today's timetables". These links can also be copied for use on your own website.

Can I download a copy of the timetable?

Yes. Each timetable is available for download as an Adobe PDF. Go to the timetable page and select your timetable from the list under "Download a PDF timetable". Viewing of PDF files requires free Adobe Reader software.

Can I view the timetable on my mobile phone or PDA?

You can view the next services between any two stations on your mobile phone or PDA using the "Next train service" feature. Go to the CityRail mobile site and click "Next train service".

I'm not sure which train line and direction to use?

If you are unfamiliar with the CityRail network we have now included the Transport Info Trip Planner on the home page. You can simply enter your origin and destination station and be provided with a number of options for completing your journey.
