Pensioners & seniors

A new Pensioner Excursion Ticket, at a flat fare of $2.50, was introduced on January 4, 2005 as part of the NSW Government's Fairer Fares plan. The tickets cover all day travel around Sydney and Newcastle.

Replacing the four existing Pensioner Excursion Tickets, the new ticket has been extended to private bus operators in the Sydney metropolitan area and will continue to apply to travel on the CityRail network, State Transit buses and Sydney Ferries. The flat fare of $2.50 also replaces the Newcastle Suburban Excursion Ticket for pensioners.

Pensioner Excursion Tickets are available to people holding Centrelink pensioner concession cards, NSW Seniors Cards or NSW or Victorian War Widow/er concession cards.

You can purchase a Pensioner Excursion ticket at any time of the day from drivers of both private and state buses, at CityRail stations and Sydney Ferries ticket offices. Tickets are valid for travel up to 4.00am the following morning.

Certain services are excluded: Sydney Explorer Bus, Bondi Explorer Bus, special event buses and Manly JetCats. A station access fee also applies when using any of the Airport Line stations – Green Square, Mascot, Domestic or International.

One way CityRail travel
If you only use CityRail and are making one single trip less than 35km, you should purchase a concession CityRail single ticket and not the new Pensioner Excursion Ticket. The concession CityRail single ticket will cost you a maximum of $2.30 depending on the distance.
