Trespassing on railway tracks puts commuters, the community and rail staff at risk and can result in serious injury or death.
Near misses resulting from people crossing railway tracks occur every day across the CityRail network. People are risking their lives and not thinking about the consequences of this dangerous behaviour, often for the sake of saving the few minutes it would take to walk upstairs or across an overpass.
Join us as we aim to reduce this unsafe practice by launching a trespassing prevention campaign.
The first station involved in the roll out of this campaign was Jannali, where trespass related near misses occur every week. The launched was marked with a community breakfast at Jannali Station on Thursday 15 December 2005.
The event was a great success, providing our staff with the opportunity to talk to customers and raise awareness about this serious issue. Many residents had not realised the extent of the problem in the Jannali area and consequently there was a high level of interest in reducing trespassing and reporting incidents in the interest of saving lives.
So please remember if you see someone trespassing or crossing the tracks call 000 immediately. If you know someone crosses the track at the same time everyday, report this to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
