With wild weather forecast for the South Coast, Sydney, Central and North Coast regions later today (19/06/07) RailCorp has implemented an emergency management plan in the event of major delays or disruptions to the CityRail and CountryLink networks.

A command centre will be established at the Rail Management Centre at Central Station. Extra customer service staff will be deployed at Wollongong, Waterfall, Hornsby, Gosford and Newcastle to provide information and respond quickly.

A number of buses are on stand-by to provide a limited service if train services become disrupted. In the event of major disruptions to peak hour services, bus operations cannot provide normal peak hour train capacity.

The Rail Management Centre will liaise with emergency services agencies to monitor road conditions to ensure buses are able to safely transport passengers to their destinations.

Experienced local staff and network engineers will monitor rainfall and track conditions on an hourly basis to ensure trains are able to safely transport passengers in the event of flooding. Tree-loppers and infrastructure crews will also be on-call to clear tracks and remove debris to keep train lines open.

CityRail will keep media outlets informed of any disruptions to services.
