Every day people put their lives in danger by trespassing on railway lines, ignoring warnings at level crossings and disregarding simple safety advice designed to help avoid slips, trips, falls and injuries.
To coincide with National Safety Awareness Week (23-29 July) CityRail has launched a safety website dedicated to helping customers become more aware of how easy it is to travel safely.
The site contains safety tips for everyone, including parents, seniors, school children and people travelling at night. It features information about what constitutes "trespassing", explaining that it can take the length of five football fields for an eight-carriage train to come to a halt. There’s also information about how schools and youth groups can be part of our Youth Safety Outreach Program and receive visits from Jonathan Beninca, our motivational speaker specialising in railway safety.
Visit www.trainsmart.com.au to find out more about how you can travel safely and take a quiz that could see you win a year’s free travel or one of 50 free monthly CityRail passes.
