  Changes to CityRail fares
  Thursday 25 October 2007

View increases on adult fares to CentralThe Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) today granted CityRail's submission for a fare increase which will take effect from Sunday 11 November 2007.

Single tickets will increase in price between 20 cents and $1, depending on the distance travelled. The cost of weekly tickets will rise by $2 for trips up to 35km in length and $3 for longer journeys.

There will be a $2 increase for combined train, bus and ferry TravelPasses while DayTripper and off-peak children's tickets will increase in price by four per cent.

In granting the fare increase IPART recognised the improvement in reliability and other important service areas highlighted by the recent customer survey by the Independent Transport Safety and Reliability Regulator.

IPART also recognised the improvements that will continue to be delivered by the significant investment being made to further improve CityRail's trains, and upgrade and improve stations and lines. This fare rise will also help reduce the burden on the taxpayers who have been funding an increasing portion of CityRail's deficit.

We recommend customers allow extra time on the first weekday of the fare increase, Monday 12 November to purchase their ticket.

The table below outlines the changes.

Fare calculator data on this website will be updated when the changes are introduced.
