New information screens trial at Central Station
  Friday 21 December 2007

A new passenger information system, modelled on those used by the London Underground, is currently being trialled at five entry points to Central Station. It is designed to improve the real time disruption and emergency information to passengers.

Currently there are 35 passenger information screens at 25 locations across the network. The difference with the new screen layout is that it displays each line on the network with its current on-time-running status.

The line by line service summary will be defined as; good service, minor delays, major delays or planned trackwork.

This sort of information provides a snapshot of current disruptions and the extent of the delays, which allows passengers to make informed choices about their travel plans quickly and simply.

The new screens will be rolled out across other city and suburban stations early next year if the screens prove useful and are welcomed by passengers.
