The upgrade is part of an initiative to provide independent access to rail services for those with disabilities, parents with young children and those traveling with heavy baggage.
The opening of the new station facilities and alterations to entries will be staged as follows:

New station footbridge and lift open.
Station entrances return to their original position. |
12 May 2008 to
1 June 2008 |
Existing temporary and new station footbridges open. |
| 1 June 2008 |
Existing temporary footbridge close.
New station footbridge and lift will be the only way in and out of the station. |
| 7-9 June 2008 |
Existing temporary footbridge demolished. |
