The completion of two major infrastructure projects means we are making some timetable changes to your train services from Monday 19 April 2010.
The Cronulla branch line duplication and SOLAR projects will provide a second continuous track between Cronulla and Sutherland and a new computer-based signalling system.
Introducing this infrastructure allows us to extend two peak train services from Sutherland to Cronulla.
We are also making some other minor timetable changes to integrate the new infrastructure and make your train services more reliable.

Platform changes
Cronulla Station on weekdays
The extension of the platform at Cronulla Station means weekday trains will now depart from two different ends of the platform:
- Platform 1 - the northern end (closest to Cronulla shops)
- Platform 2 - the southern end (closest to Gunnamatta Park)
Use the table below to find out which platform your train departs from on weekdays.

More about the new infrastructure
A second track between Cronulla and Sutherland
The Cronulla branch line has long been a bottleneck for Illawarra line services due to two sections of single track between Sutherland and Gymea and between Caringbah and Cronulla.
Since 2007, we have been working on building a continuous second track between Cronulla and Sutherland as part of the Cronulla branch line duplication project.
The completion of this project will allow us to increase peak trains operating on the Cronulla branch line from four to eight per hour and help ease crowding.
It will also separate the operation of City-bound and Cronulla-bound train services, helping to reduce delays.
Upgraded stations
You may have also noticed that we have been working on upgrading Kirrawee, Woolooware and Cronulla stations to integrate them with the new infrastructure.
We have installed easy access lifts and constructed second platforms at Kirrawee and Woolooware stations as well as an extended platform and a new train stabling facility at Cronulla.
A more modern, computer-based signalling system
During this period we have also been working on the Sutherland-Oatley-Loftus Area Resignalling project to install new overhead wiring structures and replace signalling equipment in operation since in 1939.
This signalling upgrade will allow Sutherland Junction and the Cronulla branch line to be controlled using a modern, computer-based signalling system to further improve the reliability of your trains.
New infrastructure = more services
You will begin to experience the full benefits of the new track between Cronulla and Sutherland when we introduce a new CityRail timetable for the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines by December 2010.
The new timetable will provide you with:
- More trains between Cronulla and the City
- Express trains from Cronulla to the City during the morning peak
- Trains to depart Bondi Junction every 10 minutes on weekends
- More trains from Kiama to the City during the off-peak on weekdays
- Most trains from Kiama to extend to Bondi Junction on weekends
Your feedback matters
Earlier this year we gave you the opportunity to comment on the proposed new timetable for the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines.
Your comments are currently being reviewed and your feedback will be incorporated, where appropriate, in the final version of the new timetable.
Thank you
Thank you for your patience and understanding during the construction. We hope you enjoy the benefits of you improved line.
