Timetable changes from Sunday 23 October

Posted: Tuesday 4 October 2011. Updated Sunday 23 October.

CityRail staff assisting customerRailCorp has made several timetable changes across the CityRail network.

These timetable changes focus on easing crowding, better matching capacity on trains with passenger demand as well as providing other operational enhancements.

The timetable changes will deliver some key benefits to improve your journey. Some of the benefits include:

  • Opening of the relocated Schofields Station
  • Additional peak services on the Western Line to ease crowding
  • More Oscars to operate on the South Coast Line on existing services
  • Additional carriages on selected peak services to provide further capacity
  • Additional off-peak services on the Western, North Shore and Illawarra lines
  • Additional weekend services on the Blue Mountains Line

Other operational changes to the timetable have also been incorporated for the progressive introduction of more Waratah and Oscar trains.

From Saturday 29 October the new, relocated station at Schofields will open. When it opens, selected peak and weekend services will commence at Schofields providing an additional 42 services per week for Schofields customers.

Part of a wider plan

The NSW Government has invested over $246 million to increase capacity and improve reliability of CityRail services on the Richmond branch line, including building the new station at Schofields.

The Richmond branch line used to consist of two tracks between Blacktown and Quakers Hill and a single track between Quakers Hill and Richmond. Building a second track between Quakers Hill and Schofields will ease the delays caused by trains taking turns to occupy the single track that used to exist.

The Richmond branch line duplication is part of the Rail Clearways Program, which provides increased capacity and improved reliability on CityRail's suburban network.

Stage 1 of the project involved the duplication of 3.1km of track between Quakers Hill and Schofields and the construction of the new Schofields Station approximately 800m closer to Quakers Hill.

The Department of Transport is also actively planning the expansion of new bus services as development occurs in the North West growth area linking Rouse Hill, Schofields, Quakers Hill, Blacktown and other centres.
