How we restored South Coast Line services
Posted: Thursday 1 December 2011
On Thursday 24 November, a Pacific National coal freight train derailed at Coalcliff and five wagons tipped on their side.
As a result, trains on the South Coast Line were suspended in both directions between Thirroul and Waterfall until Monday 28 November.
The recovery and repair job required a 500-tonne crane to help move eight 25-tonne wagons, each loaded with 75 tonnes of coal. Over 400 metres of track was damaged.
CityRail thanks South Coast customers for their patience during this period.
