Rail Safety Week
Posted: Wednesday 8 August 2012
Rail Safety Week takes place from 13-19 August. Rail operators across the country will be running campaigns to raise awareness of rail safety. This year the theme is "Use your brain, tracks are for trains".
CityRail is urging customers, pedestrians and drivers to stay off the tracks and reminding them that crossing at non-marked areas comes with a penalty of up to $5,500.
We are supporting Rail Safety Week by raising awareness of potentially dangerous behaviour that can lead to safety incidents and injury:
- Trespassing on the railway tracks and level crossing safety
- Running for a train i.e. slips and falls
- Getting stuck in closing doors
- Minding the gap between the train and platform
- Standing behind the yellow line
If you see anyone crossing train tracks illegally, report it to the police by calling 000. If you know someone who regularly trespasses on tracks, you can make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Rail Safety Week is a joint initiative between the Australian Rail Safety Industry and the trackSAFE foundation. For more information on Rail Safety Week visit www.railsafetyweek.com.
