Sydney's Waratah train
You'll enjoy a wide range of new comfort, safety and accessibility features aboard our Waratah trains, which will be progressively introduced from late 2010.
The 626 new carriages - equivalent to 50% of the current suburban fleet - will be delivered through the NSW Government's $3.6 billion rolling stock public-private partnership with the Reliance Rail consortium.
Key features
- smart air-conditioning which automatically adjusts to the temperature and number of passengers;
- improved internal and new external CCTV security;
- new on board passenger information displays and communication systems;
- additional emergency help points in each vestibule;
- improved disability access including additional handrails, priority seats with more wheelchair spaces - 16 per eight carriage train;
- new carriage configuration so passengers can walk through the entire train for emergency evacuation from either end of the train in an emergency.
