New timetable for Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines
Minor changes to other CityRail lines
Sydney Buses' Eastern Suburbs timetable changes
Part of the plan to improve reliability
Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines
On 28 May 2006, a new CityRail timetable for Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines will be introduced. This follows the completion of the $77 million turnback at Bondi Junction which will allow trains to turn around faster, and so increase the capacity of the line, to match Sydney’s growing needs. It is part of the NSW Government’s $1.5 billion Rail Clearways Plan to untangle our complex rail network for more frequent and reliable CityRail services.
The introduction of the September 2005 CityRail timetable for the wider network has delivered marked reliability improvements, and similar results are expected for the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines.
Other CityRail timetables
Owing to the complexity of the CityRail network, particularly around Sydney's CBD, major changes to the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines timetables have had a flow-on effect to the other CityRail timetables. For the majority of timetables these changes are mostly minor and you will continue to receive the same level of service, frequency and stopping patterns as the September 2005 CityRail timetable.
Construction work has begun on the upgrading of North Sydney Station. The $58 million upgrade will include an expanded concourse, enhanced station safety and security systems, new fire detection and protection safety systems, new lifts, new escalators and 16 additional ticket barriers.
Work involved in this upgrade will impact on the trains arriving and departing from this station, as only three out of the four platforms will be operating at any one time. Some services that previously terminated at North Sydney have been rescheduled to run to Lindfield, Gordon or Hornsby and back, which will impact on North Shore, Northern and Western Line timetables.
Buses
Government and local bus companies have been given copies of the new CityRail timetable. You will need to contact your bus company to see if it will change its timetable to match the new train times.
Viewing the CityRail timetables
