  • Twelve (222 King St), free-range roast duck with Madeira glaze Italian style.
  • Tamana's on Top (1st Floor, 196 King St) Indian classics and plasma TVs screening Bollywood movies.
  • Oscillate Wildly (275 Australia St) always attracts talented young chefs so innovation and excitement are menu staples here.
  • Chocolate Dog Café (549 King St) café by day, Mexican cantina by night.
  • Doy Tao (543 King St) curries, noodles and salads.
  • Seeda Thai (121 Enmore Rd), a friendly family-run BYO spot opposite Enmore Theatre.
  • La Ricetta (143 Enmore Rd) Italian classics with the best seasonal produce.

Petersham
The hub of Sydney’s Portuguese, Petersham has lots going for it if you love the hearty fare of the Iberian peninsula.

  • Cafe Gloria (82 Audley St) original Portuguese eatery generous servings and in a simple setting.
  • Costa Do Sol (77 New Canterbury Rd) honest cooking with lots of garlic.
  • Perama (88 Audley St) Greek classic dishes and fabulous desserts.

Croydon
Look for the a laid back little strip at Croydon Station.

  • Hotel Saravana Bhavan (15 The Strand) friendly neighbourhood restaurant serving dishes from all over India but with a southern bias.
  • Newcomer Café on Strand (2 The Strand) quality café fare like marinated lamb salad with roast pumpkin, pine nuts, feta and baby spinach.
