North Shore Line

Milsons Point
Heading north of the bridge, Milsons Point boasts two restaurants that are favourites with local diners.

  • Aqua Dining (North Sydney Olympic Pool, cnr Paul and Northcliff Sts). A beautiful glass restaurant perched atop the pool, serving modern Australian cooking.
  • Garfish (Cnr Broughton and Burton Sts) choose your fish and have it cooked the way you like it.

North Sydney
North Sydney, the city's second largest business district offers plenty of choices for office workers.

  • To's (Shop 3, 181 Miller St) laksas and simple stir fries.
  • Ivan & Lissies (63 Union St) modern Australian and Asian dishes.
  • Safi (55 Ridge St) classic Lebanese banquets, mixed platters of dips and skewered meats.

St Leonards
As St Leonards has grown year on year as a business district, so to has its dining scene.

  • Nilgiri's (81-83 Christie St), Malabar (332 Pacific Hwy) and Qmin (207b Pacific Hwy) traditional Indian delights
  • Sakana-Ya (336 Pacific Hwy) Japanese with an emphasis on seafood.
  • The Sushi Counter (64 Willoughby Rd) fresh ingredients and prompt service.
  • Popular Chinese eateries include Ying's (2/270 Pacific Hwy), Sea Treasure (46 Willoughby Rd), Mathew's Peacock Gardens (100 Alexander St) and the new, spicy Sze Chaan Food (22 Pacific Hwy).
  • Viet Nouveau (19 Falcon St) claypot dishes are the drawcard. La Goulue (17 Alexander St) French classics.

Artarmon
A little further north is Artarmon where the office towers start to thin out.

  • Sushi-Ya (10 Wilkes Ave) where excellent sushi, sashimi and other classics are a hit with Japanese and Australians alike.

Chatswood
Venture into Chatswood and you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Chinatown.

  • Yum cha is a hot men item at Fook Yuen (7 Help St) and Chequers Seafood (shop 220 Mandarin Centre, 65 Albert Ave).
  • BBQ Kitchen (308 Victoria Rd) for serious meat lovers.
  • Chatswood Terrace Peking Restaurant (425 - 417 Victoria Ave) cold cuts and dumplings.
  • Koreana BBQ (501 Victoria Ave) cook up your meat on the tabletop.
  • Cafe Victoria (284 Victoria St) get your teeth into some Transylvanian fare.
  • Makoto (336 Victoria Ave) sensational sushi train.
  • Rocket Bar & Grill (Level 1, cnr Help and Railway Sts) contemporary Australian fare.

Roseville and Lindfield
Things start to quieten down as we move further north and the landscape becomes leafier.

  • Roseville is home to fine Lebanese at El Karim (126 Pacific Hwy), and then it's on to Lindfield where Indigo (304 Pacific Hwy) serves upmarket Indian.

Turramurra and Hornsby
Stately homes, manicured gardens and simple dining choices.

  • India Tea and Curry House (1259 Pacific Hwy Turramurra) Balti-style Indian.
  • Hornsby Chinese Seafood (2a Dural St) fish-hotpots are particularly popular.
