Sydney & Beyond

Further afield

CityRail's network makes it easy to explore parts of Sydney usually better known to locals than to visitors.
  • South Cronulla is one of the most visited beaches in Sydney. Not only is it safe for swimming and close to shops and cafes, it's the only Sydney beach you can reach entirely by train - take the Illawarra Line straight to Cronulla Station
  • From Cronulla Station you can connect by bus to Kurnell, and walk on the historic place where Captain James Cook first landed in 1788
  • Sydney's Royal National Park was the first gazetted national park in the world. Its lush habitats range from heath, to rainforest, to open woodland and estuarine systems. To get to the Royal National Park, take the Illawarra Line to Loftus, Engadine, Heathcote or Waterfall stations. On Sundays and public holidays, a tram travels between Loftus Station and the park
  • The Penrith Whitewater Stadium was the 2000 Olympic venue for the canoe/kayak slalom events. Take the challenge to experience whitewater rafting in the only man-made whitewater course of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere by taking the Western Line to Penrith. While you're in Penrith, visit the Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural Centre, an initiative of the Western Sydney Aboriginal Community
  • Parramatta holds a special place in Sydney's history as the site of the original market gardens for European settlement. Parramatta's historic buildings live comfortably in the city environment of Parramatta. To visit Elizabeth Farm, or Government House, take the Western Line to Parramatta Station
  • Cabramatta is Sydney's best kept gourmet secret, a bustling market place of all the exotic fruits, vegetables, meat and special ingredients needed for more than a dozen South East Asian cuisines, available from soup stands, food stalls, restaurants, and specialty stores. Take the South Line, Bankstown Line, or Cumberland Line to Cabramatta Station
  • Sydney Olympic Park hosted the 'best Olympic Games ever', and the dedication of CityRail staff was a major contributor to this success. To enjoy the continuing sporting events at Sydney Olympic Park, take the Western Line to the heart of Olympic Park.
