Security

Recent world events have highlighed the need for CityRail to be prepared and alert. We have implemented various safety measures such as specialist training of staff, including conducting full-scale emergency evacuation simulations in cooperation with emergency services and other agencies. CityRail works closely with the NSW Police and is investing in people and equipment to ensure travel on our system is secure. At CityRail we provide the following security measures for customers:

  • 600 Transit Officers to provide customer service, check tickets and patrol stations and trains
  • security resources, including Police and Transit Officers, are tactically deployed across the CityRail network
  • closed circuit television cameras monitor every station
  • staff in control rooms monitoring the cameras have direct contact with Police
  • all new trains have CCTV cameras and accessible Emergency Help Points fitted
  • more than 700 accessible Emergency Help Points are installed on stations. Our target is to have 99 per cent of Help Points in working order at all times
  • our security staff and the Police conduct joint exercises aimed at reducing crime on the CityRail network
  • frequent audits of safety and security are conducted and assessed with the aim of identifying areas for improvement
