Going out for the day? CityRail has a range of inexpensive ticket options for occasional travellers and tourists. Return and day tickets are valid to 4.00am the next day.

Single

An inexpensive way for occasional customers to make a single trip to one destination only.

Return

Takes you where you want to go and back again.

Off-peak return

You can save up to 30% on your return fare when you travel after 9.00am Monday to Friday (earlier in outer suburban areas such as Katoomba) or at any time on weekends and public holidays.

Child

Children four years and over, but less than 16 years, pay half adult fare. Infants under four travel free. Child off-peak fares for point to point travel are also available.

All-day tickets

DayTripper

All-day travel on CityRail, Sydney Buses and Sydney Ferries. Includes discounts to many of Sydney's leading attractions. Find out more about DayTripper.

CityHopper

All-day CityRail travel between 11 stations in and around the Sydney CBD:

  • Central, Martin Place, Museum, Town Hall, St James, Circular Quay, Kings Cross, Wynyard, Redfern, Milsons Point, North Sydney

If you're travelling from stations outside the ones listed above you can still purchase a CityHopper. It costs just $2.40 extra ($1.20 for a Child fare) on the regular price of your return rail ticket.

Pensioner Excursion

All-day CityRail travel for pensioners and seniors - just $2.50 per person.

Also includes travel on Sydney Buses, Sydney and Newcastle Ferries and all privately operated bus services in the metropolitan and outer metropolitan areas - Newcastle, the Lower Hunter, the Central Coast, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra.

Available to people holding a Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs pensioner concession card, NSW Seniors Card or NSW or Victorian War Widow(er) concession card.

It can be purchased at CityRail stations, on board buses (except Sydney Buses PrePay services) and Sydney Ferries ticket offices.

Certain services are excluded: Sydney Explorer Bus, Bondi Explorer Bus and special event buses. A station access fee applies when using any of the AirportLink stations - Green Square, Mascot, Domestic Airport or International Airport.

Family Funday Sunday

All-day travel on CityRail, Sydney Buses, Sydney Ferries and participating private bus companies - just $2.50 per person. Available every Sunday, when a minimum of one adult and one child related by family are travelling together.

A station access fee applies when using any of the AirportLink stations - Green Square, Mascot, Domestic Airport or International Airport. Find out more about Family Funday Sunday.

Tourist and leisure tickets

SydneyPass

Available for travel for any 3, 5 or 7 days within an eight day period for:

  • Unlimited travel on CityRail services in the Red TravelPass zone.
  • Unlimited travel on all regular Sydney Buses plus unlimited travel on Sydney Explorer and Bondi Explorer.
  • Unlimited travel on all regular Sydney Ferries services plus RiverCats to Parramatta.
  • One trip to the Airport from any CityRail station within the Red TravelPass zone. Valid during the validity of the ticket (3, 5 or 7 days) OR one trip to the Airport from any City station valid for two months after the expiry date shown on the ticket.
  • Bonus: tickets sold at Airport Link Stations also include one trip from the Airport to any station in the City.

Link tickets

Going to the city?

A ticket to the city lets you alight at any city centre station - and if it's a return ticket, start your return journey at any city centre station.

City stations are Central, Town Hall, Wynyard, Circular Quay, St James, Museum, Martin Place and Kings Cross.

Family fare deal

When at least one fare-paying adult travels with children or grandchildren, one child travels for half fare and the other children travel free. The family fare deal is valid for single, return, DayTripper and CityHopper tickets.
