Customer purchasing a ticket at a station ticket officeCityRail tickets are available from station ticket offices and ticket vending machines where available. Fares are calculated based on the distance you travel and represent extremely good value.

Please ensure you have a valid ticket (and concession card if required) before travelling. If both the ticket office and ticket vending machines are closed, you can buy a ticket at your destination.

Avoid the queues

If you are travelling on a Monday or after a public holiday, there may be queuing for tickets so allow additional time to purchase your ticket.

7 and 14 Day RailPasses are available any day of the week. Consider purchasing it on an alternative day.

How about buying a FlexiPass? Choose from 28 to 365 days travel.

Top-Up your ticket

Monday mornings are difficult enough without having to wait in line with everyone else. Top-Up allows you to purchase an additional seven days travel before your existing 7 Day RailPass expires. You can do this any day of the week, at any station ticket vending machine (excluding fast fare machines).

When you have less than seven days left on your ticket, put your partially used ticket in the Top-Up slot of the ticket vending machine.

Insert the money requested - the cost of your weekly ticket. The machine quickly calculates the travelling time left on your old ticket and issues you a new 7 Day RailPass ticket, which also includes the days you had remaining on your old ticket.

Child and Student 7 Day RailPasses can also be topped up - even if the vending machine displays 'Open - No Concessions'.

Credit cards

You may use your credit card to pay for FlexiPass or TravelPass (quarterly and yearly) tickets (with application form). Additionally, credit card facilities are now available on selected TVM's at our busier stations. CityRail does not pass on the cost of transaction fees to customers.

EFTPOS

You may pay for your tickets at some stations by EFTPOS if the amount is over $24. CityRail does not pass on the cost of transaction fees to customers.
