Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line

- Customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
- At the completion of the Cronulla branch line duplication, a new timetable for the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra and South Coast lines will be developed. As part of the development of this timetable new services will be introduced and stopping patterns will be reviewed. Customers will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed timetable when available.
Bankstown Line

Weekday - morning peak
- Customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. Departure and arrival times may change.
- Between 6.00am and 8.00am (Lidcombe time), services to Liverpool via Regents Park will not operate. Customers travelling from Inner West stations to stations between Carramar and Sefton during this time will need to change at Birrong. Customers travelling to Liverpool, Warwick Farm and Cabramatta will need to travel on the South Line via Granville. Liverpool to the City services via Regents Park will continue to operate.
Weekday - off-peak and afternoon peak
- Most Bankstown Line services will not stop at Warwick Farm between 1.30pm and 7.00pm in both directions. Warwick Farm customers travelling to stations on the Bankstown Line will need to travel to Cabramatta and change for Bankstown Line services.
- During the afternoon peak, customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Weekday - evening
- City to Lidcombe via Bankstown services, in both directions, will not operate after 8.20pm (Central time). After this time Bankstown Line services from the City will operate to/from Liverpool. Customers travelling to/from Regents Park, Berala or Lidcombe will need to change at Birrong for a connecting Bankstown Line service after this time.
Weekends
- Stations between Birrong and the City will receive additional weekend services, increasing the frequency of trains to 15 minute intervals (currently half-hourly) from approximately 7.30am to 5.30pm.
Inner West Line

Weekday - morning peak
- A new morning peak service from Liverpool to the City via Granville will provide crowding relief on South Line services. This service will depart Liverpool at 7.54am and arrive at Central at 8.50am.
- Between 6.00am and 8.00am (Lidcombe time), services to Liverpool via Regents Park will not operate. Customers travelling from Inner West stations to stations between Carramar and Sefton during this time will need to change at Birrong. Customers travelling to Liverpool, Warwick Farm and Cabramatta will need to travel on the South Line via Granville. Liverpool to the City services via Regents Park will continue to operate.

- Stations between Ashfield and the City will receive additional weekend services, increasing the frequency of trains to 15 minute intervals (currently half-hourly) from approximately 7.30am to 5.30pm.
Airport & East Hills Line

The Revesby turnback and platforms project, which is part of the Rail Clearways Plan, is now delivered and ready for the 2009 timetable.
This facility provides an improved starting point for local services stopping all stations on the Airport & East Hills Line. It removes the need for trains to cross in front of frequent Campbelltown limited stops services, as is currently the case on this route. This will improve reliability for Airport & East Hills Line services as well as services to Campbelltown.
Local services stopping at all stations will start and finish at Revesby. East Hills and Panania will be served by express Campbelltown services. Customers can interchange at Revesby between local and express services, with direct services to the City continuing to operate without interchange required.
Weekday - morning peak
- East Hills and Panania will have a minimum of four services an hour in the morning peak. These will be express services travelling via Sydenham.
- Revesby will receive an increase of up to four express services an hour to the City.
Weekday - off-peak
- East Hills and Panania will have a half-hourly service in the off-peak.
- Revesby will receive an increase of two services an hour to the City.
Weekday - afternoon peak
- A new fast afternoon peak service will operate from the City to Campbelltown via Sydenham. This service will depart Central at 5.56pm and arrive at Campbelltown at 6.51pm.
- East Hills and Panania will have a minimum of four services an hour in the afternoon peak. These will be express services travelling via Sydenham.
- Revesby will receive up to four additional express services an hour from the City.
Weekday - evening
- East Hills and Panania will have a half-hourly service during the evening.
- Revesby will receive between two and four additional services an hour.
Weekends
- East Hills and Panania will have a half-hourly service during the weekend.
- Revesby will receive four services an hour - two all stations services and two express services.
South Line

Weekday - morning peak

- All Cumberland services will stop at all stations, including Casula.
- The increase in off-peak services until approximately 11.30am (Central time) on the South and Western lines will improve connection times at Granville for passengers travelling between Blacktown and Campbelltown.
North Shore Line

Customers should note that Northern Line services will operate from Hornsby to the City via Macquarie Park (on the new link), and the North Shore to the CBD and continue to Epping via Strathfield. They will return the same way.
The new link provides direct services between the lower North Shore Line (stations between Chatswood and the city) and the upper Northern Line (stations between Epping and Hornsby) and therefore provides additional services for stations between Chatswood and the City.
Weekday - morning peak
- Services from Chatswood to the City will be increased by up to four an hour.
- The new link between Chatswood and Epping will connect the Northern Line to the North Shore Line providing four new direct services from Hornsby to the City via Macquarie Park.
- Waitara and all stations to Roseville will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Weekday - off-peak
- Waitara and all stations to Roseville will receive at least four services an hour, in both directions.
- Until approximately 11.30am (Central time), services to stations between Chatswood and the City will receive additional services, except for Waverton and Wollstonecraft which receive at least four services an hour.
Weekday - afternoon peak
- Services from the City to Chatswood will be increased by up to four an hour.
- The new link between Epping and Chatswood will connect the North Shore Line to the Northern Line providing four new direct services from the City to Hornsby via Macquarie Park.
- Waitara and all stations to Roseville will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Weekday - evening
- Stations between the City and Chatswood will receive up to two additional services an hour, except for Waverton and Wollstonecraft.

- Waitara and all stations to Killara will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
- Waverton, Wollstonecraft, Lindfield and Roseville will now receive four services an hour to the City.
Western Line

Weekday - morning peak
- A new morning peak service will operate from Quakers Hill to the North Shore, departing Quakers Hill at 7.10am, arriving at Town Hall at 8.05am and North Sydney at 8.15am. This service will stop at all stations to Parramatta, then Redfern, then all stations to North Sydney.
- Two Quakers Hill services that currently terminate at Central will extend to the North Shore via the CBD. The 7.24am Quakers Hills service will arrive Town Hall at 8.20am and North Sydney at 8.30am. The 7.39am Quakers Hill service will arrive Town Hall at 8.35am and North Sydney at 8.45am. These services are 8-car trains.
Weekday - off-peak
- Additional services will be provided at Penrith, St Marys, Mt Druitt, Blacktown, Seven Hills, Westmead, Parramatta, Granville and Strathfield in both directions until approximately 11.30am (Central time).
- The hourly City to Riverstone service will now extend to Richmond, providing two services an hour from midday to 4.00pm on weekdays.
Weekday - afternoon peak
- A new semi-fast afternoon peak service will operate from North Sydney to Quakers Hill. This service will depart North Sydney at 5.12pm, Town Hall at 5.22pm and will arrive at Quakers Hill at 6.15pm.
- A new semi-fast afternoon peak service will operate from North Sydney to Penrith. This service will depart North Sydney at 5.27pm, Town Hall at 5.37pm and will arrive at Penrith at 6.41pm.
- A new semi-fast evening peak service will operate from North Sydney to Penrith. This service will depart North Sydney at 6.27pm, Town Hall at 6.37pm and will arrive at Penrith at 7.47pm.
- Stopping patterns will be adjusted to move passengers more effectively from the CBD in the afternoon peak and reduce passenger numbers on platforms at CBD stations.
- Kingswood and Werrington will now receive four services an hour from the City.
Weekday - evening
- The last direct service to Richmond from the City will depart later from Town Hall at 9.25pm, arriving at Richmond at 10.52pm.
- Customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Weekends
- Customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Carlingford Line

Northern Line

New link, new timetable layout, new way of travelling on the Northern Line.
- The new link between Epping and Chatswood now forms part of the Northern Line instead of a shuttle service only. This change will affect the stopping patterns and departure times of all Northern Line services.
- The three new stations - Macquarie University, Macquarie Park and North Ryde - will receive four services an hour in both directions on weekdays and weekends.
- Most Northern Line services will operate from Hornsby to the City via Macquarie Park (on the new link), and the North Shore to the CBD, continuing to Epping via Strathfield. Trains will then return the same way (see diagram). During the middle of the day and on weekends, some trains will operate between Hornsby and Chatswood via the new link.
- Northern Line services will no longer operate directly between Hornsby and the City via Strathfield with the exception of a few services which will operate as through trains between Strathfield and Hornsby to minimise interchange at Epping for some school children.
- Customers travelling to/from stations between Normanhurst and Cheltenham to/from stations between Eastwood and Strathfield will need to change trains at Epping. This interchange will increase journey times.
- The way customers read the timetable will change. The timetable layout is different to what is currently shown. The timetable shows services from Hornsby to the City via Macquarie Park in the same table as services from Epping to the City via Strathfield.
- All services on the Northern Line will have eight carriages.
- The Hornsby platform 5 and stabling project, which is part of the Rail Clearways Plan, is complete and ready for the new timetable. This additional platform, track and stabling will increase train terminating capacity at Hornsby to support services on the new link, which will start from Hornsby.
- Some customers will be required to interchange at Epping.
- Customers using the new Northern Line will now arrive/depart from different platforms at CBD stations.

- Epping has two new platforms, 5 and 6, which are underground and accessible by lifts and escalators. Platforms 5 and 6 are for arrival and departures of services via Macquarie Park and platforms 1, 2 and 3 are for services via Strathfield.
- Journey times will change on the new Northern Line:
- For some customers travelling on the new Northern Line, journey times will be reduced, particularly for those customers travelling between the upper Northern Line and the lower North Shore Line.
- For some customers travelling on the new Northern Line, journey times will be increased, particularly for those customers travelling between the upper Northern Line and the lower Northern Line.
- Overall, the new timetable increases services throughout the day on the Northern Line and provides up to 175 extra services between Epping and the City each weekday as well as up to 50 additional services at Eastwood and 20 additional services at West Ryde each weekday.
Weekday - morning peak
- The four semi-fast Hornsby to the City services no longer operate via Strathfield. These services will now operate via Macquarie Park.
- Epping will receive 12 services an hour in the morning peak: four services to the City via Macquarie Park, four services to the City via Strathfield, and four intercity services.
- Eastwood will receive seven services an hour to the City in the morning peak: four services to the City via Strathfield and three intercity services. Eastwood will no longer receive the semi-fast Hornsby to City via Strathfield service as this service will now operate via Macquarie Park.
- West Ryde will receive four services an hour to the City as well as two intercity services stopping between 8.00am and 9.00am (Central time). West Ryde will no longer receive the semi-fast Hornsby to City via Strathfield service as this service will now operate via Macquarie Park.
- Denistone, Meadowbank, Rhodes, Concord West and North Strathfield will continue to have four direct services an hour to the City via Strathfield.
- Normanhurst, Thornleigh, Pennant Hills, Beecroft and Cheltenham will continue to have four direct services an hour to the City however these services will operate via Macquarie Park.
Weekday - off-peak
- Suburban services at all stations will increase from two to four an hour in both directions until approximately 11.30am (Central time).

- For one hour in the afternoon peak, the four semi-fast City to Hornsby services will no longer operate via Strathfield. These services will operate via Macquarie Park.
- Epping will receive up to 12 services an hour in the afternoon peak: four services from the City via Macquarie Park, four services from the City via Strathfield, and three or four intercity services (depending on the hour).
- West Ryde will receive five services an hour in the afternoon peak: four services from the City via Strathfield and one intercity service. West Ryde will no longer receive the semi-fast City to Hornsby via Strathfield service as this service will operate via Macquarie Park.
- Eastwood will receive seven services an hour in the afternoon peak: four services from the City via Strathfield and three intercity services. Eastwood will no longer receive the semi-fast City to Hornsby via Strathfield service as this service will operate via Macquarie Park.

South Coast Line

Weekday - morning peak
- All intercity services will stop at Epping and Eastwood, with the exception of Newcastle services arriving at Central at 6.47am, 7.19am and 8.48am which will stop at Epping only.
- The 6.04am Wyong to Central service will commence from Gosford at 6.34am (as currently timetabled) and will be an 8-car Oscar (currently 6-car train). This service will also stop at Epping, Eastwood and West Ryde. Passengers from stations between Wyong and Gosford will need to travel on the 6.14am from Wyong to Central.
- The 7.07am Gosford to Central will be an 8-car Oscar (currently 6-car train). This service will also stop at Epping, Eastwood and West Ryde.
- Customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Weekday - off-peak
- Most intercity services will stop at Epping and Eastwood, with the exception of the 8.03am service from Newcastle that does not stop at both stations and also the 3.15pm and 3.45pm services from Sydney that do not stop at Eastwood.
Weekday - afternoon peak
- Intercity services will stop at both Eastwood and Epping, with the exception of the Newcastle service departing Central at 5.15pm that does not stop at both stations and the service departing Central at 4.00pm that does not stop at Eastwood.
- Two 6-car services currently departing from the City to Gosford will become 8-car Oscars and will stop at West Ryde, Eastwood and Epping. The departure times of these two services from Central will be as is currently timetabled, departing Central at 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
- Customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Weekday - evening
- The last service to Central will depart Newcastle at 9.40pm, arriving at Central at 12.43am.
- All intercity services will stop at both Epping and Eastwood with the exception of the 6.05pm service from Newcastle.
Weekends
- All intercity services will stop at both Eastwood and Epping.
- Customers will receive a similar level of service and frequency as in the current timetable. However, some departure times will change.
Hunter Line

- Evening peak departure times have been adjusted to provide services at more even intervals from Newcastle.
- Platform height differences at some stations will be relieved by operating more Endeavour trains on Scone and Dungog services, making it easier for passengers to board and alight the trains.
- More reliable connections on selected peak services between the Hunter Line and Newcastle & Central Coast Line.
- The last service to Central will depart Newcastle at 9.40pm, arriving at Central at 12.43am.
- Since consultation on the Hunter timetable, all services starting from Maitland/Telarah and travelling to Newcastle and return will stop at Metford as well as the 6.02am Scone service to Newcastle and the 8.22am Newcastle to Dungog service.
