There are numerous security activities operating behind the scenes to help keep you safe including:

Transit Officers

Transit Officers assisting customer600 Transit Officers are deployed across the network. Transit Officers regularly patrol CityRail services to assist you in having a safe and trouble-free journey. They work in conjunction with the NSW Police and have the power to:

  • remove troublemakers from trains and stations
  • issue penalty notices
  • require offenders to provide their correct name and address
  • check passenger's tickets
  • in certain circumstances they can arrest offenders and hand them over to the NSW Police

CCTV and Help Points

The security control centreA security control centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with communication links to Transit Officers, NSW Police and emergency services.

More than 8300 CCTV cameras are utilised to monitor the network.

More than 700 Emergency Help Points, with at least one on every CityRail station.

If you press an Emergency Help Point on any station platform, you're visible on live CCTV with a trained CityRail operator for assistance.
