Your guide to Sydney trains

Keeping you safe and secure

Below are some of the ways we're working to keep you safe and secure.

Transit officers

Transit officers assisting customerTransit officers regularly patrol CityRail stations and trains to assist you in having a safe and trouble-free journey. They work in conjunction with the police and have the power to:

  • remove troublemakers from trains and stations
  • issue penalty notices
  • require offenders to provide their correct name and address
  • check passengers' tickets
  • in certain circumstances, arrest offenders and hand them over to the police.

CCTV and Help Points

The security control centreA security control centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with communication links to transit officers, police and emergency services.

More than 9,700 CCTV cameras are utilised to monitor the network.

More than 700 Emergency Help Points have been installed, with at least one at each CityRail station.

If you press an Emergency Help Point on any station platform, you're visible on live CCTV and can get assistance from a trained CityRail operator.
